직무 설명

Role overview

The National Indian Health Board is hiring two full-time Project Coordinators to support public health infrastructure and capacity work within its Tribal Health Programs division. One role will serve the division broadly, and the other will focus on the Public Health in Indian Country Capacity Scan (PHICCS).

This is an outward-facing position that involves regular coordination with Tribal partners, stakeholders, and outside organizations. The coordinator works under the Program Manager to keep projects moving smoothly, strengthen team coordination, and support NIHB’s broader mission of advancing health equity for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

These positions contribute programmatic, communications, administrative, and policy support across projects related to Tribal public health research and assessment, infrastructure, quality improvement, performance management, core competencies, and training/capacity building. They are non-supervisory roles.

The roles are based in Washington, DC, with up to 20% travel. Highly qualified candidates outside the DC metro area may be considered for fully remote work.

About PHICCS

PHICCS, or the Public Health in Indian Country Capacity Scan, is a national assessment led by NIHB to understand the capacity of Tribal health and Tribal public health organizations to provide public health services. The scan is intended to help Tribes, Tribal organizations, partners, and policymakers better understand Tribal public health infrastructure and identify future improvement opportunities.

General responsibilities

  • Serve as a coordination hub for project teams, helping maintain clear communication, shared understanding, and a collaborative working environment.
  • Organize and carry out public health projects within the Tribal Health Programs department, while tracking timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables.
  • Set up and support team meetings, including agenda preparation, logistics, and documentation of action items and follow-ups.
  • Keep project records current and accurate, and help prepare status updates, summaries, and reports.
  • Support day-to-day administration, such as scheduling, travel planning, and logistics for workshops, conferences, and related activities.
  • Work with team members to engage Tribal organizations and stakeholders in a coordinated and well-planned manner.
  • Spot possible issues early and work with the Program Manager and other leads to solve bottlenecks, reassign work, or adjust timelines when needed.
  • Ensure project activities are carried out in a culturally responsive way that reflects the values, traditions, and needs of AI/AN communities.
  • Independently manage workload, implement assigned activities, and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Embed NIHB’s mission and values into everyday project work.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned.

PHICCS-specific responsibilities

  • Support all parts of a national Tribal assessment and related environmental scans covering public health programming, services, workforce, and capacity in Indian Country, including survey and resource development, OMB clearance and other approvals, implementation, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Contribute as a primary writer on publications and reports based on national assessment findings.
  • Help expand Tribal participation in and use of assessment results by developing educational content, sharing materials, and building partnerships.
  • Deliver presentations, trainings, and regular progress updates related to scan development and implementation.
  • Create opportunities for Tribal stakeholders and Tribal public health capacity advisory groups to shape national assessment and scan activities.
  • Provide technical assistance on Tribal public health infrastructure and capacity to Tribes, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Coordinate and host education and training activities, including ongoing learning communities focused on best practices in Tribal public health capacity and infrastructure.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree or bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in project coordination, ideally in a team-based setting, is preferred; a mix of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, guide group discussions, and support a team-first culture.
  • Strong organization and multitasking skills for managing multiple projects and stakeholders at once.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for keeping teams aligned and informed.
  • Experience running virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office, project management tools, and collaboration platforms.
  • Working knowledge of AI/AN health, public health policy, and social determinants of health; experience with AI/AN communities or Indigenous populations is preferred.
  • Ability to move flexibly across different projects and subject areas.

Compensation and location notes

The role is based in the Washington, DC metro area, though remote candidates will be considered. The salary range mentioned for the posting applies to candidates in the DC metro area or those willing to relocate there. For remote candidates outside that area, compensation may be adjusted to reflect local market conditions and geography.
