Performance Test Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Performance Test Engineer with over five years of practical experience conducting performance testing using LoadRunner or Apache JMeter. The candidate will be responsible for planning, crafting, executing, and analyzing performance tests across web, mobile, and API platforms. A critical part of the role involves spotting performance constraints and collaborating closely with development and infrastructure teams to enhance application efficiency and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Grasp and analyze both business requirements and technical specifications to develop effective performance testing strategies.
• Create, update, and maintain performance test scripts primarily using LoadRunner or Apache JMeter.
• Design and implement various performance tests including load, stress, spike, endurance (soak), and volume testing.
• Develop realistic workload models that reflect anticipated user traffic and business use cases.
• Conduct performance test cycles and monitor system behavior throughout tests.
• Evaluate test outcomes to detect issues related to the application, databases, middleware, or infrastructure components.
• Collaborate with development, DevOps, database, and infrastructure teams to resolve identified performance bottlenecks.
• Supervise system metrics such as CPU, memory, disk usage, network, JVM, and database performance during testing.
• Generate comprehensive reports detailing observations, findings, and improvement recommendations.
• Engage in discussions around performance tuning and confirm improvements after remediation efforts.
• Integrate performance testing steps into CI/CD pipelines where applicable.
• Maintain all relevant documentation, test scripts, and reusable testing assets.
• Estimate required effort for testing tasks and provide consistent project status updates to stakeholders.
• Assist in validating performance in production environments as needed.
• Adhere to performance testing standards and best practice methodologies.

Qualifications and Skills

• At least five years detailed experience in performance testing.
• Hands-on expertise with LoadRunner or Apache JMeter tools.
• Thorough understanding of performance testing techniques such as load, stress, spike, endurance (soak), and volume testing.
• Experience designing and maintaining performance test scripts.
• Knowledge and experience testing web applications, APIs, and microservices architectures.
• Strong grasp of HTTP/HTTPS protocols, RESTful APIs, and web services.
• Competence in workload modeling and scenario building for performance tests.
• Skill in analyzing performance reports to identify and troubleshoot bottlenecks.
• Familiarity with application and system resource monitoring.
• Basic proficiency in SQL for verifying application data integrity.
• Experience working within Agile environments.
• Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Experience using monitoring tools like Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana, Prometheus, or New Relic.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI.
• Capability in scripting languages including Java, Groovy, or JavaScript for customizing scripts.
• Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix commands.
• Exposure to cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Hands-on experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience working with version control systems, particularly Git.
• Knowledge of database performance evaluation techniques.
• Relevant certifications in Performance Testing, LoadRunner, or Apache JMeter are advantageous.
