About the Role
The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) is the primary agency for bush fire management and emergency response in New South Wales. The Operational Officer (OpO) Level 3 position within the Canobolas District offers a vital role in supporting community safety and volunteer engagement. This role is part of the RFS Operational Officer Program, designed to foster a flexible and experienced workforce across various regional and district units, including specialised departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with brigades, volunteers, staff, and key stakeholders to enhance operational readiness and community safety initiatives.
- Coordinate projects and activities that align with district priorities, ensuring the delivery of effective emergency services and bushfire management.
- Provide ongoing support and capability development for RFS volunteers.
- Manage relationships and communications within a dynamic operational environment.
- Contribute adaptively to various tasks including operational activities, volunteer support, and community engagement.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Possess RFS Group Leader qualification or equivalent National Units of Competency (PUAOPE016 and PUAOPE023).
- Hold a Diploma in relevant fields such as Emergency Management, Project Management, Leadership, or demonstrate equivalent expertise.
- Have Level 2 Principal Incident Management Team (IMT) qualification in Planning, Operations, or Logistics.
- Maintain a current driver's license with willingness and ability to travel.
- Complete an Operational Officer Medical Assessment confirming required health and fitness standards (for external applicants).
- Experience working with volunteer organizations, emergency services, or similar operational settings is highly regarded.
Terms and Conditions
- Permanent full-time employment with a 35-hour workweek.
- Salary range between $118,562 and $131,233 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
- Positions classified at RFS Level 8/9.
- Location based in Orange within the Canobolas District.
- Limited onsite parking available at no cost.
- Annualised Conditions Allowance may apply.
- Operational uniform supplied.

Additional Information
A recruitment pool may be established for future vacancies within the Western Area Command, encompassing various employment types.
