Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with at least 5 years of practical experience managing Microsoft SQL Server environments. The candidate should have strong skills in SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), Always On Availability Groups, backup and recovery methods, performance optimization, and implementing high availability and disaster recovery strategies. This role focuses on maintaining high availability, optimal performance, security, and dependability for essential SQL Server databases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and manage Microsoft SQL Server instances.
  • Administer SQL Server systems across Development, Test, UAT, and Production environments.
  • Design, deploy, and support SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances (FCI).
  • Set up, manage, and troubleshoot Always On Availability Groups.
  • Conduct planned failover exercises, disaster recovery drills, and validate high availability setups.
  • Monitor SQL Server performance, availability, and capacity using specialized tools.
  • Manage database backup, restore operations, and disaster recovery plans utilizing SQL Server's native tools and maintenance techniques.
  • Optimize database performance through tuning, query improvements, and index management.
  • Resolve issues related to databases, replication, clustering, and Always On configurations.
  • Implement database security protocols including user management, encryption, auditing, and compliance measures.
  • Automate routine DBA tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, SQL Server Agent, or appropriate scripting solutions.
  • Support database migrations, version upgrades, and compatibility evaluations.
  • Collaborate effectively with infrastructure, application, and support teams to address production challenges.
  • Develop and maintain thorough documentation for database architecture, operational procedures, and disaster recovery processes.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • At least 5 years of direct experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL Server versions 2016, 2017, 2019, or 2022.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances (FCI).
  • Proven ability to implement and manage Always On Availability Groups.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) technology.
  • Comprehensive understanding of SQL Server backup, restore, recovery, and maintenance methods.
  • Expertise in database performance tuning, including query plans, indexing strategies, and statistics analysis.
  • Advanced T-SQL coding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with SQL Server Agent, Database Mail, Maintenance Plans, and tools like SQL Profiler and Extended Events.
  • Competency in PowerShell scripting for SQL Server administrative tasks.
  • Familiarity with data security technologies such as encryption, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), and auditing mechanisms.
  • Experience managing SQL Server in Windows Server environments.
