Position Summary

The Microbiologist role is a full-time, on-location opportunity at the Kampala facility. The individual will conduct routine microbiological testing of milk, dairy items, raw materials, water, and environmental samples to verify conformance with safety and quality regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare microbiological media and operate laboratory apparatus responsibly.
  • Conduct microbial quantification and pathogen detection tests.
  • Maintain precise documentation of analytical outcomes.
  • Support quality control and assurance processes, including addressing and investigating deviations.
  • Collaborate with production teams to execute corrective and preventive measures.
  • Enhance laboratory methodologies continuously and engage in internal auditing activities.
  • Assist in delivering training sessions on hygiene practices and microbiological safety standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Solid foundation in microbiology with emphasis on dairy or food microbiology and community experience in microbial testing and interpretation.
  • Laboratory expertise encompassing sample preparation, aseptic handling, and safe culture management.
  • Familiarity with maintaining and operating equipment like incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, and testing tools.
  • Experience in routine quality control testing of products and processes to ensure adherence to regulatory and company norms.
  • Knowledgeable in quality assurance practices including documentation and audit support.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology, or related fields.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to adhere to standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively cooperate with cross-functional teams.
  • Additional advantage if acquainted with dairy industry standards, HACCP, and food safety regulations.
