Role Overview
Expand the use of your orthopaedic skills outside the operating theatre by joining ACC New Zealand as a Medical Advisor within our Clinical Services team. This temporary role allows you to blend clinical expertise with impactful decision-making regarding injury treatment and rehabilitation, all while continuing some clinical practice without the burden of on-call duties or acute care rosters.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate specialist reports, imaging, and clinical documentation related to orthopaedic injuries.
- Provide expert clinical judgment on diagnosis, causation, treatment choices, and rehabilitation strategies for complex injury claims.
- Guide ACC decision makers by delivering clear, evidence-based clinical advice.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary medical teams on challenging cases to optimize patient outcomes.
- Contribute to ongoing clinical quality assurance, education, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in Orthopaedic Surgery, with a current Annual Practising Certificate.
- Active involvement in contemporary clinical orthopaedic practice.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, paired with excellent written communication.
- Collaborative mindset, enthusiastic about multidisciplinary teamwork and enhancing rehabilitation and recovery for injured patients.
- Experience working in public, private, or mixed orthopaedic settings is valued.

- Competitive salary of NZD 245,036 plus 9% employer superannuation, with pro rata adjustments if applicable.
