Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the maintenance and optimization of our South Island hydroelectric generation fleet. This position involves working closely with site teams to address mechanical challenges, improve operational reliability, and assist with capital projects that enhance asset performance and longevity.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert mechanical engineering advice and solutions to support hydro generation assets.
- Collaborate with site operations teams to identify and implement improvements that boost reliability, safety, and efficiency.
- Support major maintenance activities and contribute to planning and execution of capital projects.
- Problem-solve complex mechanical issues within an industrial environment regulated for safety and performance.
- Assist in shaping long-term investment strategies related to mechanical assets.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanical engineer passionate about balancing engineering rigor with practical problem solving and teamwork. Essential qualifications and experience include:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Previous work experience in power generation or similar heavy industrial settings.
- Strong knowledge of complex mechanical plant operation and maintenance.
- Experience managing engineering projects and working within regulated industrial environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and safety-focused engineering practices.
- Professional registration in engineering is desirable; candidates working towards it are also encouraged to apply.
Additional advantageous experience includes functional safety standards, contract management, financial evaluation of engineering investments, and development of specialized technical expertise within large asset-based organizations.
