Job description
Role Overview
An established leader in the Cardiff region is seeking a Mainframe Operations Engineer experienced in supporting Unisys mainframes and managing job scheduling tools. This position offers a salary up to £58,000.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle major incidents affecting core banking, payments, and job scheduling systems by providing technical guidance, coordinating recovery efforts, and keeping relevant stakeholders updated.
- Serve as the escalation contact for complex incidents and issues, delivering third-line support and leading resolution activities.
- Ensure platform integrity through enhancements in monitoring, automation, operational tools, scheduling, and improving service reliability.
- Oversee system and database administration, maintaining performance, resilience, capacity, and recovery standards.
- Design, test, and maintain disaster recovery strategies along with comprehensive runbooks, procedures, and recovery plans.
- Lead on complex system modifications and release processes to guarantee operational preparedness, proper controls, and smooth service delivery.
- Encourage best practices, knowledge sharing, and continual improvements within the operations team.
- Mentor and support team members, fostering a robust and high-performing workforce.
Requirements
- Detailed understanding of mainframe operations, specifically with Unisys platforms.
- Considerable experience in IT operations, infrastructure management, and production support contexts.
- Proficiency with job scheduling and monitoring systems.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server including performance tuning, troubleshooting, and backup/restore processes.
- Familiarity with Windows environments, scripting via PowerShell, SFTP protocols, and Azure DevOps usage.
