Position summary
This role is focused on running an efficient, high-standard linen operation that follows company procedures, protects public health standards, and supports a strong guest experience.
Reporting line
The position reports directly to the Hotel Stores Manager.
Key duties
- Manage the day-to-day handling of all linen currently in use.
- Keep stock records current and accurate at all times.
- Maintain the linen store in a tidy, orderly condition.
- Prepare and distribute linen and towels to suite attendants and housekeeping utilities each day.
- Sort damaged or soiled linen, and carry out repairs whenever possible.
- Remove unusable uniforms and linen from circulation and complete the weekly damage report; keep these items separate until the Rooms Division Manager and Hotel Stores Manager approve disposal.
- Carry out tailoring and repair work on uniforms as needed.
- Respond promptly to all guest tailoring requests, questions, and complaints, then follow through until the guest is satisfied.
- Maintain a clear record of all tailoring work completed on a cruise-by-cruise basis.
- Issue linen to crew members.
- Provide uniforms to new crew and ensure issue documentation is filled in correctly according to company procedure.
- Collect uniforms from departing crew, verify them against the original issue sheets, and report any mismatch to the Hotel Stores Manager.
- Oversee daily handling of all uniforms in circulation.
- Keep a precise, up-to-date inventory of all linen store items.
- Receive incoming deliveries of linen, towels, and uniforms and confirm the quantity within 3 days of delivery.
- Update the Hotel Stores Manager on stock levels and request replenishment in a timely manner when needed.
- Prepare in advance for seasonal uniform changes.
- Support regular inventory checks as directed by the Hotel Stores Manager.
- Complete minor repairs to public-area soft furnishings, curtains, and drapes whenever possible to extend their life.
- Maintain the chemical locker on Silver Spirit and Silver Muse, including stock records, safe storage, and issue control.
- Keep communication flowing with the Hotel Stores Manager and other shipboard departments.
- Follow departmental standards, specifications, and work routines.
- Complete special daily side duties assigned by the department.
- Keep the workshop clean and organized in line with public health requirements.
- Apply strict public health practices in every part of the job.
- Prepare for both announced and unannounced public health inspections, whether internal or external.
- Use ship equipment properly and report any faults or damage honestly; track repairs with the supervisor until fixed.
- Work to reduce breakage and waste, and dispose of garbage correctly.
- Maintain awareness of cost and quality.
- Support managers and supervisors in training and onboarding new staff.
- Address problems or potential issues quickly and involve the right people when needed.
- Escalate service difficulties, complaints, and operational concerns to the immediate supervisor without delay.
- Attend all training sessions to continuously improve performance.
- Follow the company code of conduct at all times.
- Carry out preventive maintenance practices.
- Keep the Hotel Stores Manager fully informed about important issues and any significant problems.
- Follow all company standard operating procedures and remain accountable for compliance.
- Demonstrate good people management and professional conduct with all shipboard departments.
- Observe and enforce uniform and grooming standards according to company policy.
- Complete any other duties assigned.
Safety responsibilities
- Take part in crew and passenger safety drills as instructed.
- Always follow company safety and pollution-prevention rules and operating procedures.
- Attend all mandatory training.
- Lead by example in protecting the health and safety of self and others.
- Use work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals, and safety devices correctly.
Qualifications and experience
- A valid STCW95 certificate is required.
- Previous experience as a linenkeeper or tailor in a hotel or cruise environment is preferred.
- The candidate must be physically and medically fit.
- High moral integrity is essential.
Language requirement
Fluent English, both spoken and written, is required. English is the working and safety language on board, so the role also requires the ability to give and follow instructions clearly and to communicate effectively with guests and crew.
Physical demands and working conditions
This position involves standing for long periods, walking long distances, reaching, sitting, repetitive bending, and moving up and down stairs. The role may require lifting or pushing up to 50 lbs. Overtime and irregular schedules are part of the job. Work is carried out in back-of-house areas with noise, light traffic, and other distracting surroundings.
