Role Overview

Tutor Cloud Pvt Ltd is seeking a Lead Engineer for its AI Platform team in Bengaluru. This is a full-time, permanent position for an experienced engineering leader who can architect, build, and deliver AI-driven products for a K-12-focused edtech platform.

The role combines hands-on development with technical leadership. You will guide engineers, set engineering standards, and help create secure, scalable, high-performance cloud solutions that use modern AI capabilities to support teachers, schools, students, and families.

About Tutor Cloud

TutorCloud develops AI-enabled learning tools designed to personalize learning, assist teachers, automate grading and assessment, and provide clear progress visibility. The company follows an educator-first philosophy, aiming to strengthen classroom teaching rather than replace it. Its platform is built with school and district use cases in mind and aligns with privacy and compliance requirements such as FERPA, COPPA, and GDPR.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will lead architecture and technical design for AI-powered applications, review solution designs and code, and mentor software engineers through complex technical challenges. The role also involves driving engineering quality, evaluating new technologies, and improving technical practices across the team.

You will design and develop backend services in Python and FastAPI, create secure REST APIs and real-time communication services, and build reusable components that are maintainable, well documented, and optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability.

In the AI platform area, you will implement features using large language models, develop retrieval-augmented generation solutions, build orchestration workflows, design prompt strategies, manage conversation context and memory, integrate vector databases and semantic search, and improve response quality, latency, reliability, and operational efficiency. You will also introduce guardrails, monitoring, and responsible AI practices.

On the cloud and DevOps side, you will design Azure-based cloud-native systems, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps, strengthen deployment automation and release management, and monitor system health, availability, and performance while working closely with DevOps teams.

For security and quality, you will promote secure development practices, design authentication and authorization flows, ensure alignment with security and quality standards, reduce technical debt through refactoring, and participate in architectural and security reviews.

Technical Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate should bring strong experience in Python, Flask, FastAPI, REST APIs, and asynchronous programming. The role also requires practical knowledge of LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, AI agents, vector databases, embedding models, and AI evaluation or monitoring.

Experience with event-driven systems, OAuth2, JWT, SSO, WebSockets or streaming APIs, Redis, message queues, NoSQL and relational databases, data modeling, and performance tuning is expected. Cloud experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure App Service, Azure Storage, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Azure DevOps, Git, Docker, and preferably Kubernetes is also important.

Applicants should have at least 4 years of professional software development experience, a track record of building scalable enterprise systems, experience delivering AI-enabled products, and familiarity with Agile development practices. Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, ownership, strategic thinking, analytical ability, and problem solving are important for success in this role.

Education and Preferred Background

A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent industry experience may also be accepted.

Preferred but not mandatory experience includes AI observability tools, MLOps and deployment pipelines, edtech or SaaS products, OpenTelemetry and distributed tracing, and integration with third-party APIs or enterprise identity providers.

This opportunity is open to candidates holding a B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
