Job description

About the Role

We seek a Lab Manager to lead our lab team in executing quality assurance and quality control processes efficiently, upholding the high standards of beer production at Monster Brewing Company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to all quality and safety standards for beer production at the brewery.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all tasks typically assigned to Lab Operator 1, Operator 2, and Technician 1 roles.
  • Oversee all lab procedures and tasks managed via the Orchestrated Beer system.
  • Supervise routine and unforeseen maintenance activities for laboratory equipment.
  • Plan and deliver sensory training programs for the team.
  • Manage lab staffing schedules and monitor individual employee performance.
  • Maintain precise documentation including standard operating procedures, logs, and safety records.
  • Ensure the lab team complies with company policies and safety regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly through email, phone, text, or in-person methods.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire new laboratory staff as necessary.
  • Lead training initiatives and oversee production scheduling along with raw materials procurement for the lab department.
  • Authorize and validate department timecards.
  • Perform other brewery-specific duties as assigned.
  • Support interdepartmental processes as required and maintain a collaborative environment.
  • Stay up to date with methodologies prescribed by the American Society of Brewing Chemists (ASBC).

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership skills facilitating efficient communication within and across departments.
  • Dependable, punctual, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills including a readiness to ask clarifying questions when needed.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and informed decision-making abilities.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to handle physical demands such as lifting 10 to 75 pounds regularly, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, seeing, and operating various tools and machinery.
  • Capacity to endure both physically and mentally in sometimes demanding operational and administrative settings.
  • Availability to work weekend and evening shifts as necessary.

Position Details

  • Employment: Full-time, exempt salaried role.
  • Salary range: $55,000 to $79,000 annually, dependent on experience.
  • Reports to: Director/General Manager of Brewery Operations or Operations Manager.
  • Supervisory duties included: Yes.
  • Minimum Education: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent; bachelor’s or vocational degree preferred.
  • Experience Required: 3-5 years in production brewery roles, with preference for department management experience.
  • Age Requirement: Must be 21 years or older.
  • Travel: Limited to less than 10% of time.
  • Driving: Required.
  • Equipment: Use of standard office equipment plus brewery machinery including pallet jack, forklift, and scissor lift.
