Job Overview
The IT Support Specialist will deliver extensive technical support across various units at UAE University, ensuring seamless technology service provision. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting computer hardware, software, and peripherals to sustain reliable IT and communication systems for staff both on campus and at remote sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair computer hardware issues, including microcomputers, disk drives, and laser printers, distinguishing between hardware and software problems within networked environments.
- Provide proactive onsite technical assistance and knowledge sharing to end users.
- Manage user accounts and systems administration tasks related to Active Directory, Exchange, SCCM, Citrix cloud applications, and print management solutions for both servers and users.
- Develop technical specifications and reports for university hardware standards to support procurement and tender processes.
- Oversee maintenance orders and technical documentation for photocopier services.
- Monitor and maintain computer systems and network performance.
- Act as a liaison between customers and IT operations to resolve technical issues effectively.
- Create and test complex user documentation and coordinate with hardware vendors to address equipment failures.
- Execute routine security system checks and participate in complex IT projects.
- Contribute to unit objectives, including budget management for IT equipment purchases.
- Serve as a technical resource within the department and generate moderately complex reports.
- Guide users through troubleshooting via face-to-face or telephone support.
- Conduct hardware replacements and routine maintenance tasks including setup and configuration of computers and telephones.
- Support repair and upgrades of PC/Mac hardware and software, troubleshoot printers and scanners, and manage inventory of technical supplies.
- Assist with the technical aspects of conferences and maintain department websites.
- Deliver workshops to students, faculty, and staff to enhance technical skills.
- Manage a 24/7 operational environment including off-shift support and on-call responses as required.
- Ensure compliance with all university information security policies and procedures.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned to support department functions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Between 3 and 6 years’ experience in an IT support capacity.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Professional certifications such as MCITP 2008 or MCSE 2003 are preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Infrastructure technologies.
- Understanding of tender procedures and related documentation for IT procurement.
- Expertise in Microsoft desktop applications, PC hardware, peripherals, operating systems, and application software.
- Familiarity with LAN protocols and client-server business applications.
- Capability in delegated domain administration within Microsoft Active Directory.
- Skilled in methodical troubleshooting of complex IT problems.
