Job Overview

Join the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) as an Investigator, contributing to public safety by ensuring compliance with occupational regulations. This full-time role, based in Auckland or Wellington, offers a salary range of $85,537 to $101,911 plus KiwiSaver and wellness benefits. You will work on diverse cases across multiple occupational licensing schemes such as Immigration Advisers, Electrical Workers, Licensed Building Practitioners, Motor Vehicle Traders, Auctioneers, and Pool Inspectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough investigations into complaints and possible breaches of occupational regulations.
• Analyze evidence and apply legislation to support fair and evidence-based regulatory decisions.
• Engage with complainants, practitioners, regulatory boards, and other stakeholders to gather relevant information.
• Prepare clear, comprehensive investigation reports to advise on appropriate outcomes.
• Support disciplinary or court proceedings when necessary.

Required Skills and Experience

• Previous experience in investigations, compliance, enforcement, complaints handling, or similar regulatory environments.
• Curiosity and meticulous attention to detail with an objective approach to assessing information.
• Strong analytical capability to evaluate large volumes of data, identify critical issues, and make sound recommendations.
• Proficiency in interpreting and applying legislation, policies, and procedures accurately and practically.
• Excellent written communication skills demonstrated through preparing detailed and reasoned reports and advice.
• Good judgement and discretion when handling sensitive information and interacting professionally with affected parties.
• Confidence in communicating with a broad range of stakeholders including legal advisors and regulatory boards.
• Familiarity with tribunals, regulatory boards, or court processes is advantageous.
• Strong time management skills to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Legal entitlement to live and work in New Zealand is mandatory.
