SMRT Architects & Engineers is seeking an Interior Designer I to play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional interior design projects. As part of our team in Portland, ME, you will be integral to creating high-quality interior environments that harmonize design vision, technical detailing, and client objectives. This full-time onsite position is perfect for a motivated designer eager to assume responsibility for intricate projects and contribute to our thriving interiors practice.

Key Responsibilities

Assist senior design staff and architects by crafting schematic layouts, selecting finishes, and preparing documentation while applying SMRT and industry design standards.
Support project development by revising drawings, producing renderings, and preparing presentation materials.
Help maintain resource libraries and manage vendor coordination.
Develop a solid understanding of interior design concepts, construction codes, and client interactions through involvement in design sessions, product research, and professional training.
Collaborate closely with architectural teams, engineers, consultants, and vendors to ensure cohesive project execution.
Engage in client meetings to understand and address project needs.
Conduct site visits to assess field conditions and ensure design implementation accuracy.
Enhance skills in sustainable design and support initiatives such as LEED and WELL certifications.
Stay updated on current design innovations, materials, and methods while completing mandatory continuing education.

Candidate Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from a CIDA-accredited institution, or
Associate degree or certificate complemented by a minimum of two years’ experience in commercial interior design
Technical proficiency in interior construction, applicable codes, and project documentation
Expertise with Revit and AutoCAD software; familiarity with Bluebeam, SketchUp, Lumion, and Adobe Creative Suite is advantageous
Excellent communication, organizational capabilities, and emerging leadership qualities

Compensation

Salary range for this role is from $55,000 to $61,000 annually.
