Job description
Overview
We are looking for a forward-thinking Interactive Character Architect to build the foundational design of AI-powered characters, digital humans, and virtual personas capable of engaging naturally and meaningfully with users. This role demands an integrated approach encompassing character identity, personality, behavior, memory, communication, emotional states, and interactive responses as a harmonious whole.
Key Responsibilities
- Design comprehensive interaction systems for AI characters, digital humans, and virtual personas.
- Outline the interplay between character identity, personality, behavioral patterns, memory, communication, and emotional dynamics.
- Craft the core structural frameworks dictating how characters interpret contexts, user inputs, and formulate responses.
- Develop interaction models considering conversations, decision-making processes, emotional reactions, relationships, and environmental factors.
- Define behavioral states, transitions, triggers, and conditional factors impacting character interactions.
- Architect memory frameworks for both short-term and long-term continuity across multiple interactions.
- Create relationship models enabling characters to recognize familiarity, trust, user history, preferences, and evolving bonds.
- Design scenario-specific interaction flows tailored to diverse audiences, environments, and use cases.
- Draft system-level character specifications translatable into AI agents, conversational platforms, or interactive digital humans.
- Collaborate with AI engineers to transform architectural designs into prompts, system guidelines, frameworks, and behavioral protocols.
- Partner with writers and narrative designers to preserve consistency in story, dialogue, and character logic within interaction models.
- Integrate emotional and behavioral parameters with input from behavioral design experts.
- Engineer strategies for managing ambiguity, unexpected inputs, conflicts, emotional shifts, and atypical interactions.
- Ensure character consistency across multiple conversations, platforms, modalities, and applications.
- Produce interaction maps, state diagrams, decision trees, detailed specifications, and thorough system documentation.
- Create prototypes and conduct tests utilizing conversational and generative AI technologies.
- Assess interaction quality to identify inconsistencies such as memory lapses, contradictory behavior, repetitive responses, or disrupted relationship continuity.
- Establish evaluation frameworks and testing scenarios for maintaining character coherence and responsiveness over long-term engagements.
- Work alongside voice, animation, motion, and performance teams to support multimodal character expression.
- Research and apply emerging AI technologies related to digital humans, synthetic characters, and multimodal AI systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interaction Design, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, Game Design, Psychology, Narrative Design, Digital Media, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of professional experience in interactive systems, AI characters, conversational AI, game systems, digital humans, interaction design, narrative technology, or similar fields.
- Deep expertise in interactive system architectures and user-centric interaction design.
- Proven ability in designing complex interactive characters, AI agents, or conversational systems.
- Rich understanding of AI-driven character systems, large language models, and autonomous conversational agents.
- Strong grasp of character components such as personality, motivation, behavior, memory, relationships, and communication.
- Experience with state-driven systems, decision trees, interaction flows, or linked system architectures.
- Ability to convert creative and narrative ideas into well-structured technical or semi-technical documentation.
- Familiarity with long-term interaction management and conversational continuity highly advantageous.
- Preferred experience with generative AI tools, prompt engineering, AI agent frameworks, and rapid prototyping.
- Excellent analytical and systems-thinking capabilities to comprehend multi-component character interactions.
- Strong collaboration skills across creative and technical teams.
- Effective communication skills, including the creation of diagrams, specifications, documentation, and prototypes.
- Knowledge of multimodal interactions encompassing text, voice, facial expressions, animations, gestures, or motion is a plus.
- Fluent English proficiency; additional languages are beneficial.
- A portfolio demonstrating work on interactive character systems, conversational AI, digital humans, or related projects is strongly encouraged.
What We Offer
- The chance to design next-generation interactive AI characters and digital humans.
- A collaborative multidisciplinary team of AI engineers, writers, character designers, behavioral experts, performers, animators, and interaction designers.
- Creative and technical leadership over interactive character architecture enabling communication, memory, adaptation, and relationship development.
- Access to advanced generative AI, conversational AI, digital human, and multimodal interaction technologies.
- Opportunities across entertainment, education, culture, immersive projects, and experimental tech domains.
- Professional growth at the intersection of AI, character systems, and interactive experience design.
- An environment fostering integration of technology, storytelling, psychology, performance, and system design.
