Job Overview
The Entry-Level Automation and Instrumentation Controls (AIC) Engineer will contribute to the development and engineering of automation systems supporting manufacturing processes, equipment, facility infrastructure, and critical systems. Under the mentorship of senior engineers, this role involves assisting in all project design phases, including concept, schematic development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate under guidance to carry out design tasks related to automation systems of basic complexity, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and integration with other disciplines.
- Coordinate and communicate with architects, engineers, designers, and internal/external teams to maintain coherent and practical designs.
- Perform fundamental engineering calculations such as sizing control components and selecting instrumentation/devices to meet project specifications.
- Generate technical documentation including narratives, reports, drawings, and schematic diagrams for construction purposes.
- Utilize software tools like Microsoft Office, BIM applications, and vendor platforms to support design work.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance technical skills.
- Conduct preliminary field investigations to align newly designed systems with existing infrastructure.
- Manage multiple project assignments as directed by supervisors.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree accredited by ABET in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- 0 to 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in a design consultancy environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience within a design firm setting related to instrumentation and controls.
- Registration or completion of Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
- Basic expertise in instrumentation and control system calculations and design implementation.
- Working knowledge of electrical code standards.
- Capabilities to engage with clients and external partners effectively.
- Experience in performing field surveys and producing field reports.
- Coordination skills within cross-disciplinary internal project teams.
- Ability to conduct engineering calculations under supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Revit software.
