Role Overview
The Informatics Nurse I acts as a crucial intermediary connecting operational departments and the IT division to facilitate the understanding and transformation of clinical challenges and business demands into technological solutions. This entry-level role focuses on supporting the evaluation, selection, and implementation of clinical information systems, promotes quality improvement initiatives, and educates clinical teams regarding technology processes and governance. Collaboration with stakeholders and staff is essential for enhancing the use and effectiveness of clinical systems, emphasizing education, training, quality outcomes, and support aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Bridge communication between IT and operational teams to develop, implement, and encourage adoption of technology solutions targeted at meeting operational, quality improvement, and strategic business goals.
- Deliver continuous 24/7 support for Nuvance Health by investigating and resolving issues using documentation, debugging tools, and logical analyses, including off-shift, weekend, and holiday remote support duties.
- Forge and maintain strong partnerships among IT staff, stakeholders, and vendors to advance departmental objectives and missions.
- Work closely with IT and operational leaders to support projects, identify opportunities for system design improvements, and assist in defining future state workflows and objectives.
- Develop and enhance processes, policies, and system applications to ensure effective system usage and streamline workflows for clinical end users.
- Participate in organizational safety huddles and other assigned initiatives to uphold operational standards.
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor the analysis, design, and maintenance of assigned applications, projects, or other initiatives as directed by management.
- Provide comprehensive support through planning, analytical services, problem-solving, and documentation associated with business requirements, system design, testing, and implementation.
- Offer on-site support across facilities for system rounding, live implementation support, workflow observations, committee participation, and advisory services reflective of clinical needs.
- Engage in testing efforts to support projects and system enhancements, including developing testing plans, managing issue resolution, ensuring stakeholder engagement, and coordinating training.
- Adhere to and support all governance processes and compliance with organizational, industry, regulatory, and IT standards.
- Serve as a key advocate and advisor, balancing operational clinical perspectives with IT considerations during initiatives or projects.

- Maintain dependable attendance and perform additional related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related clinical field; alternatively, degrees in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Industrial Technology, Business Administration, or similar disciplines from an accredited institution.
- Certifications in clinical management, health information management, or informatics are advantageous.
- At least four years of recent professional experience in healthcare settings, including direct engagement with clinical computer system applications.
- Preferably experienced with clinical order entry or documentation systems, especially Cerner Millennium products.
- Strong analytical skills with proficient competency in spreadsheet use, databases, and query tools.
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, with a team-oriented, creative, and analytical approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of project management methodologies.
Licenses and Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse license.
- Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance if applicable.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Involves some manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
- Minimal exposure to occupational hazards.
- Primarily sedentary work with light physical effort, including occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Generally comfortable and pleasant workplace environment.
Additional Information
Role is exempt from overtime and requires availability for 24/7 support including calls during off hours, weekends, and holidays as assigned. The position supports a wide variety of clinical and IT initiatives and requires both remote and on-site engagement across multiple facilities.
Compensation
The hourly wage ranges between $41 and $76.16 depending on experience and qualifications.
