Position Overview
As an entry-level HVAC Design Engineer, you will participate in the creation and engineering of mechanical systems for building projects. This includes designing HVAC and mechanical utilities, performing calculations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality deliverables under the oversight of experienced engineers. Your project involvement may span various stages, from studies and schematic concepts through to construction documentation and administration.
Main Duties
- Liaise with clients and external stakeholders to clarify requirements and project goals.
- Develop designs for mechanical systems including airside, water-side, natural gas, steam, and compressed air, ensuring compliance with codes and seamless integration with other disciplines.
- Create detailed design and construction documentation.
- Carry out core engineering calculations such as load and pressure drop assessments to confirm specifications.
- Perform on-site field investigations to incorporate new designs with existing systems and infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and internal/external teams for coordinated project delivery.
- Conduct thorough self-reviews of work for accuracy and completeness.
- Take part in professional development opportunities to enhance technical skills.
- Utilize a range of software platforms, such as Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, and BIM tools for drafting and modeling.
- Participate in multiple project assignments simultaneously as directed by supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (with mechanical specialization) from an ABET-accredited program.
- Up to 3 years of relevant experience, preferably within a design consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD.
- Registration for or completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
- Sustainable design credentials such as LEED or WELL, or demonstrated experience with sustainable building practices.
- Competence with essential engineering calculations for HVAC, utilities, and piping system design and implementation.
- Familiarity with conducting site surveys and supporting field reporting requirements.
- Skill in interdisciplinary project coordination on engineering teams.
