Role Overview
The Functional Perceived Quality Engineer (FPQE), also known as a Convergence Engineer, plays a crucial role in vehicle development programs. The incumbent is responsible for driving fit and finish quality standards across vehicle interiors and exteriors. This includes formulating and validating gap and flush requirements, conducting comprehensive vehicle-level convergence analyses, and collaborating with multifunctional teams to ensure superior perceived quality from early design phases through to production launch.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and overseeing gap and flush specifications for interior and exterior vehicle components throughout the development lifecycle.
- Establishing, updating, and tracking quality performance indicators and section documentation.
- Executing vehicle section assessments and geometric validations to ensure compliance with perceived quality benchmarks.
- Validating quality requirements through CAD software such as CATIA or Siemens NX.
- Leading collaborative workshops involving Styling, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to set targets.
- Performing detailed dimensional studies, tolerance stack-ups, and convergence evaluations.
- Defining and reviewing datum strategies for sheet metal and interior trim assemblies.
- Assisting in issue detection, root cause determination, and handling escalations during development and launch stages.
- Working closely with manufacturing counterparts to assess design feasibility and process reliability.
- Providing regular reports on program quality metrics and convergence status to relevant stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design, or related discipline.
- Solid expertise in vehicle-level gap and flush considerations.
- Experience crafting datum strategies for vehicle body, closure, and interior systems.
- Proficiency with GD&T standards and managing tolerance stack-ups in one and three dimensions.
- Practical knowledge concerning sheet metal and plastic components’ design and manufacturing nuances.
- Understanding of functional tolerancing methods.
- Acquaintance with vehicle manufacturing processes including Body Shop and General Assembly operations.
- Hands-on use of CATIA V5 and/or Siemens NX for geometry verification and section analysis.
- Capability to evaluate dimensional variance and support convergence initiatives throughout launch timelines.
Eligibility
Applicants must hold a B.Tech or B.E. degree in any engineering specialization.
