Role Overview

This position is a hands-on, on-site Controller role for a rapidly expanding company in New Jersey. The ideal candidate will be a SaaS-experienced finance leader who can establish ownership, drive processes, and implement structure within a currently stretched accounting team. This player-coach role requires both direct involvement in daily tasks and mentoring the team to improve operations, while collaborating with leadership to scale the finance function as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for all accounting activities, from journal entries to monthly and year-end closings.
• Prepare timely, accurate financial statements adhering to US GAAP and local regulations.
• Lead the month-end closing process and ensure compliance with financial policies.
• Develop annual budgets, track variances, prepare cash flow forecasts, and handle ad hoc financial analyses with quick turnaround.
• Implement expense and cash management controls, oversee working capital, debt collection, and vendor payments.
• Manage and coach accounting staff, providing guidance and prioritizing process improvements in a maturing finance environment.
• Collaborate across departments as an internal finance advisor and external-facing leader.
• Initiate and drive process improvements proactively to advance the finance function beyond maintenance.
• Assist CFO and CEO with strategic planning and pertinent financial KPIs.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum 5 years experience in finance operations and accounting, including prior Controller or Accounting Manager roles.
• Demonstrated expertise managing financial operations for fast-growing SaaS companies.
• Strong skills in SaaS financial reporting and consolidating domestic financial statements.
• Experience migrating accounting systems from QuickBooks Enterprise to QuickBooks Online is a notable advantage.
• Background in Big 4 public accounting firms is preferred.
• Proficient with financial systems such as QuickBooks Online, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• A leadership style that combines active contribution with team development and process building.
• Ability to work effectively under ambiguity, fast-paced conditions, and frequent urgent requests.
• Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and sound judgment in complex scenarios.
• Must be based in or able to commute reliably to Wall Township, NJ for on-site work.

Compensation and Benefits

• An annual base salary of $140,000.
