This position provides expert technical guidance, fosters workforce capability, and advocates to improve environmental health outcomes for Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory. • Offer customised technical support, mentoring, and workforce development tailored to the needs and readiness of individual member services.
  • Identify and connect members to accredited and non-accredited training opportunities and coordinate training delivery.
  • Establish, facilitate, and maintain member networks and communities of practice to enhance program sustainability and outcomes.
  • Lead AMSANT’s environmental health advocacy efforts to influence policy, funding, and system reforms benefiting Aboriginal people and communities.
  • Identify and pursue funding to expand the Environmental Health Program in key areas of need.
  • Oversee planning, execution, and continuous improvement of AMSANT environmental health activities.
  • Collaborate with members to monitor, evaluate, and communicate program results and impacts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the WALS Manager.

Candidate Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health with at least seven years’ experience as an Environmental Health Officer, including significant experience in Northern Territory and remote community settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental health issues, priorities, and social and cultural determinants affecting Aboriginal communities in the NT.
  • Proven workforce development skills including coaching or mentoring; prior experience within Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations is highly preferred.
  • Ability to build and sustain effective partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders including Aboriginal organisations, government bodies, councils, and NGOs.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage cross-culturally and clearly convey complex information.
  • Strong project management capabilities with the capacity to prioritise workload and deliver outcomes independently.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly, including to remote communities for extended durations.
