Entry Level Construction Materials Technician

Overview

Tolunay Wong Engineers, Inc. is seeking entry level Construction Material Testing Technicians for the Baton Rouge/Geismar, Louisiana area. This position offers a starting point for a career in construction materials testing, with training and certification provided from day one. Ideal candidates include recent graduates in construction management, civil engineering, geology, military veterans, or mechanically inclined individuals eager to develop practical and marketable skills.

Job Responsibilities

• Learn to test and inspect construction materials such as soil, concrete, and asphalt both on job sites and in the laboratory setting.
• Shadow experienced technicians to gain knowledge before progressing to independent work.
• Write detailed and accurate field reports.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch and site personnel daily.
• Assist with sampling or testing of construction materials as directed.
• Support field and laboratory personnel to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Transport equipment, samples, and documents between locations as needed.
• Help set up equipment and maintain clean work environments.
• Perform physical tasks including lifting between 10 to 60 pounds and moving materials up to 200 pounds using carts or wheelbarrows.
• Adhere to company safety policies and maintain a high regard for safety on client sites.
• Be punctual and operate company or personal vehicles responsibly.

Minimum Qualifications

• No prior experience required; comprehensive training for certifications such as ACI, NICET, and state DOT is provided.
• Reliable transportation is necessary; trucks are preferred with a company vehicle incentive program available.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors, including early mornings, irregular hours, and weekends when necessary.
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods on uneven surfaces.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Must pass drug screening, background check, and fit-for-duty exam.
