Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager at Xero, you will helmed the comprehensive roadmap and strategic direction for your team, guiding prioritization and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software through skilled and inclusive teams. Beyond managing tasks, you will actively participate in technical discussions, including system design, architectural trade-offs, and foundational technical evolutions. Your influence will elevate both the speed of delivery and the quality of engineering outcomes.

Team and Responsibilities

You will lead a platform or product-focused group, emphasizing trust, transparency, and diverse viewpoints. Collaborating closely with Product and Design, you will contribute to setting the strategic course of your domain, mitigating dependencies early and injecting technical insights into product decisions. Your initial focus areas include:

• Promoting AI engineering by integrating AI capabilities throughout the software development lifecycle to increase efficiency.
• Enhancing engineering throughput via robust architecture, maintaining high code quality, and decoupling legacy systems.
• Improving developer experience by minimizing complexity, toil, and unstable environments.
• Augmenting system health monitoring to ensure visible product status and actionable technical debt management.

Work Location and Environment

This role is onsite in Sydney, Australia, embracing a hybrid work model that blends in-office collaboration with remote flexibility, particularly on designated days to unite teams.
