About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Director to lead the engineering division within a prominent engineering and infrastructure firm specializing in major energy transition initiatives across Germany. Based in Frankfurt, this role involves guiding multidisciplinary teams and overseeing the successful execution of complex, high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects connected to hyperscale data centers and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and nurture multidisciplinary engineering teams engaged in numerous high-value energy infrastructure projects throughout Germany.
- Serve as the principal engineering liaison for prominent clients, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership on sophisticated high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) electrical infrastructure ventures.
- Supervise engineering deliverables for BESS, hyperscale data center power systems, grid connections, and transmission networks.
- Champion engineering quality, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the organization.
- Manage engineering resources, prioritize projects, and optimize team utilization for efficient project completion.
- Engage in business development efforts, including client presentations and technical proposal preparation.
- Establish and expand strategic, long-term client relationships to identify opportunities for business growth and repeat contracts.
- Take accountability for engineering budgets, project profitability, and commercial outputs alongside project and commercial teams.
- Lead project reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering to enhance project outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable German regulations, industry standards, and internal quality protocols.
- Mentor senior engineers and cultivate future engineering leaders within the company.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with project management, commercial, procurement, and construction teams to guarantee project success.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Substantial experience in delivering HV and EHV electrical infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Thorough knowledge of energy infrastructure domains such as power transmission, substations, and grid connections.
- Experience with projects involving Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), hyperscale data centers, or similar critical infrastructure is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing key client relationships at the executive level.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience overseeing project budgets, contracts, and financial performance.
- Ability to guide engineering strategy across multiple simultaneous projects.
- Excellent familiarity with German and European engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership capabilities.
- Proven experience in developing engineering teams and promoting technical excellence.
- Fluency in both German and English languages is mandatory.
