About the Role
Starting at an annual salary of $121,069 plus superannuation, overtime pay, and on-call allowances, including a 9-day fortnight schedule, this role offers a progressive training pathway aligned with the REM and Classification Framework. TasNetworks seeks a dependable and safety-conscious Distribution Operator to manage electrical reticulation systems and support System Operations during routine and emergency scenarios. This position is instrumental in ensuring a secure, safe, and reliable power supply for customers.
The Distribution Operator will conduct both scheduled and emergency switching operations on the network, oversee system performance monitoring, and respond to outages or faults—including those occurring under adverse weather conditions or after hours as part of an on-call roster. Responsibilities include assisting with isolations and restorations, coordinating faults in substations and underground feeders, and supervising contractors on-site. The role is structured to allow paid work experience while pursuing necessary authorisations and qualifications, with training paced to individual needs.
Candidate Profile
Candidates must hold a trade qualification as an Electrician (Certificate III in Electrotechnology) along with a valid Tasmanian Electrical Practitioners Licence. The ideal individual will have demonstrated critical decision-making skills in fast-changing environments while prioritizing safety and achieving operational outcomes. Effective teamwork, time management, and adaptability to shifting priorities are essential. Clear communication skills are required, particularly in managing customer expectations regarding timelines and solutions. Additionally, the role requires the ability to scope and manage maintenance and inspection tasks.
