Director Project Control

Overview

The Director of Project Controls will oversee and lead all project control activities for significant power plant construction initiatives. This includes comprehensive responsibility for planning, scheduling, cost management, progress tracking, reporting, risk evaluation, and performance assessment to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within financial constraints, and as per contractual agreements.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive EPC experience, particularly in thermal and combined cycle power plants, gas-fired plants, renewable energy facilities, substations, and related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead formulation and execution of integrated project schedules, setting baselines, milestones, critical paths, and recovery strategies.
• Oversee schedule tracking, promptly identifying delays and ensuring EPC contract adherence and project execution compliance.
• Manage planning teams through all stages including engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Establish comprehensive cost control procedures, monitor budgets and forecasts, analyze cost deviations, and recommend corrective measures.
• Support project management in meeting financial goals, review monthly financial reports and cash flow projections.
• Implement systems to measure project progress accurately with earned value analysis and provide detailed reports and dashboards to executives and stakeholders.
• Direct schedule risk assessments, change management, variation monitoring, and claims evaluations to assist commercial teams with extension of time claims and dispute resolutions.
• Lead and mentor multidisciplinary Project Controls teams, coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and stakeholders to promote excellence in project control practices.
• Ensure optimal use of Primavera P6 and related project control software, develop KPIs and reporting frameworks, and encourage digital tools and data-driven decision processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field; Master's degree is preferable.
• Certifications such as PMP, PSP, AACE, or equivalent are highly desirable.
• At least 20 years of project control experience in EPC, power generation, energy, or industrial projects.
• Minimum of 10 years in senior leadership roles overseeing large Project Controls teams.
• Proven track record on large-scale power plant projects exceeding USD 500 million.
• Extensive knowledge in Combined Cycle, Gas, Thermal Power Plants, and Renewable Energy projects.
• Experience working with top EPC contractors; Middle East and international project exposure is a strong plus.

Technical Expertise

• Mastery of Primavera P6 project scheduling software.
• Strong skills in EPC project controls management, cost control, and forecasting.
• Proficiency in Earned Value Management (EVM) and progress measurement systems.
• Expertise in risk analysis and mitigation strategies, change management, claims handling, and extension of time analysis.
• Capability in executive reporting, dashboard creation, contract administration, resource planning, and productivity analysis.
