About the Role and Team
Save the Children International is seeking a Director of Impact Intelligence to lead a global team focused on ensuring that rigorous data, ethical evidence generation, and cost-informed programming guide impactful actions for children worldwide. The role centers on fostering a learning-oriented culture that prioritizes evidence-driven decision-making across Save the Children’s programs.
The Impact Intelligence team comprises units overseeing Insights and Learning, Research and Evaluation, Ethics and Evidence Generation, Economic Evaluation, and collaborates closely with the MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) function.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visionary and operational leadership for a unified evidence and learning strategy aligned with Save the Children's Global Strategy and international agendas.
- Establish clear governance and leadership expectations around evidence use, embedding impact intelligence as a foundational organizational function.
- Promote a culture that values and incentivizes data-driven work, aligning HR and resource frameworks accordingly.
- Oversee the development and implementation of streamlined impact intelligence systems that enhance data quality, reduce duplications, and ensure timely insights for global and country-level stakeholders.
- Ensure coherence and integration of MEAL frameworks and related systems to support routine learning and accountability.
- Partner with IT and digital teams to implement effective tools and quality assurance practices that enhance data literacy and use.
- Prioritize evidence-focused decision-making by tailoring data collection and evaluation efforts to critical organizational questions, reducing unnecessary reporting burdens.
- Lead cross-functional coordination to ensure evidence flows effectively across programs, operations, governance, and funding units.
- Foster collaboration among units to minimize silos and encourage sharing of insights in accessible formats to support advocacy and resource mobilization.
- Direct specific units to transform data into actionable insights, strengthen MEAL capacity especially at country and partner levels, and embed learning routines that promote reflection and adaptation.
- Ensure high-quality MEAL architecture, including staffing and career pathways for MEAL professionals, with a strong emphasis on accountability to communities and feedback mechanisms.
- Oversee research and evaluation efforts to address priority learning needs, maintain robust ethical governance in data activities, and foster external partnerships to enhance thought leadership.
- Lead economic evaluation activities integrating cost and value-for-money analyses into program decisions, ensuring accessibility for non-experts and emphasizing workload reduction and efficiency.
- Champion inclusive learning practices ensuring participation and feedback from children, youth, and communities, embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion across all evidence work.
- Contribute to building diverse and inclusive teams that value varied knowledge types and experiences.
Requirements
- Strong curiosity and critical thinking about data practices with a commitment to best-in-field standards.
- Proven leadership in managing organizational learning and evidence functions within complex, multi-country environments, particularly addressing fragmented data systems.
- Interest and awareness of emerging trends and technologies that enhance impact for children.
- Extensive experience managing research and evaluation portfolios using mixed-methods aligned with strategic priorities.
- Experience with ethical oversight in research, including safeguarding and responsible data use.
- Background or ability to lead economic evaluation or cost-informed program analysis.
- Demonstrated success in leading diverse and geographically dispersed teams, navigating matrix structures to harmonize evidence efforts.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, capable of translating complex evidence into strategic recommendations.
Desirable Qualifications and Experiences
- Experience developing organizational learning or knowledge management systems, including digital tools that encourage dynamic learning.
- Engagement with communities and young people to co-create learning agendas in humanitarian and development settings.
- Commitment and practical experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in evidence and learning work.
- Publications or thought leadership in evaluation or research within development or humanitarian contexts.
- Certifications related to Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) or research methodologies.
Education
Advanced postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in international development, social sciences, planning, statistics or related fields.

Additional Information
This is a fixed-term contract for 3 years. The role reports to the Deputy CEO and Chief Strategy Officer and may include up to 20% international travel. It involves managing multiple teams with approximately 24 direct and indirect reports. The working pattern is hybrid or remote with flexible options. The successful candidate must have unrestricted work rights for their preferred location and be proficient in English. The remit is global.
