About The Role

The Bancorp, a pioneer in financial services innovation with over 25 years of industry experience, seeks a Director Controller to manage comprehensive accounting and financial reporting activities. This position is based in Wilmington, DE and involves ensuring compliance with GAAP, regulatory standards, and internal controls. The role supports the financial close process, audit coordination, and regulatory examinations while collaborating closely with finance and business units to uphold sound financial management practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the bank's accounting operations and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, delivering accurate financial statements aligned with GAAP and regulatory mandates.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory banking requirements, including preparation and submission of Call Reports and other filings, and act as principal liaison during regulatory audits.
  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, including oversight of SOX compliance, policies, and related procedures.
  • Coordinate and support both internal and external audit processes, prepare audits schedules, and resolve audit findings effectively.
  • Develop and govern accounting policies, technical memos, position papers, and procedural documentation.
  • Establish control and governance over accounting data integrity, system interfaces, reconciliations, and key financial reporting dependencies.
  • Manage general ledger and critical accounting estimates such as allowances, accruals, and valuation reserves.
  • Collaborate with Treasury, Risk Management, and FP&A teams to ensure consistent alignment across financial reporting, liquidity, capital management, and balance sheet activities.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, providing direction, performance evaluation, and fostering professional growth.
  • Drive financial reporting system improvements including upgrades, automation, and process enhancements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Advanced degrees or additional certifications are desirable.
  • Experience in regulatory reporting and banking audits is highly preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with GAAP, banking accounting standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong control-oriented approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
