About Hamilton City Council and the Role

Join the Hamilton City Council team, which consists of over 1,400 staff members working across 28 business units in 20 locations. Our collective efforts focus on improving the wellbeing of Hamilton's community. Our Communication and Engagement Unit acts as a strategic partner within the organisation, aiming to maintain a strong connection between the Council and the residents by keeping them informed and involved in decision-making processes.

We invite an experienced and collaborative Digital Communication and Engagement Advisor to contribute towards becoming a leading, community-focused council. The role involves creating engaging digital content to keep residents connected and informed about city initiatives, events, and public consultations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute social media campaigns across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and other digital channels.
  • Create compelling photo and video content that communicates Council initiatives effectively to Hamilton residents.
  • Engage directly with the community through online conversations and social media comments to build authentic relationships.
  • Collaborate with motivated colleagues to foster innovation and deliver excellent outcomes for the city’s population.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a degree in communication or a related tertiary qualification.
  • At least five years of experience managing social media and community engagement in organisations of similar or larger scale.
  • Strong background in photography and videography with substantial content creation expertise.
  • Proven success in leading digital communication and engagement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with community management tools, email marketing, and analytics software.
  • Passion for working with diverse populations and building inclusive community relationships.

Compensation and Benefits
