Role Overview

At Crate and Barrel, Designers play a key role in inspiring customers through the latest trends in home design. They cultivate meaningful, long-standing client relationships by leveraging their expertise to help with furnishing projects ranging from entire homes to individual accent pieces. Designers are well-versed in various design styles—from timeless classics to modern contemporary—and utilize digital design tools during both in-store and in-home consultations to bring customers' visions to reality.

Key Responsibilities

• Boost sales and enhance customer engagement by promoting various programs, managing leads, and maintaining active involvement on the sales floor.
• Conduct design consultations in person, virtually, and in clients' homes, creating compelling design packages including moodboards, 2D and 3D floor plans, product lists, and presentations.
• Ensure timely delivery of design projects in line with established deadlines.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of brand aesthetics and merchandising approaches across different channels such as Store, E-Commerce, and Catalog.
• Stay informed about product details, care instructions, competitor offerings, and industry trends.
• Meet individual sales targets, key performance indicators (KPIs), and productivity standards by showcasing excellent selling skills on the sales floor.
• Identify customer needs through active listening and communicate company loyalty programs including designer rewards, Design Trade Program, and credit card benefits.
• Exemplify outstanding customer service by displaying a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and providing prompt, courteous assistance.
• Assist in educating store employees on design services to build knowledge and awareness of design offerings.
• Cultivate new and enduring customer relationships through networking and clienteling efforts.
• Leverage understanding of fundamental design concepts, including spatial planning, fabric selection, lighting, and various interior design styles.
• Communicate effectively and efficiently to translate the brand vision and customer needs clearly.
• Demonstrate proficiency with technology tools such as 2D/3D design software, Google suite, video conferencing, iPad, and floor planning applications.
• Keep abreast of current design trends and adapt quickly to evolving business needs.

Required Skills and Experience

• Familiarity with core design principles including spatial arrangement, fabric choice, lighting design, and interior design styles.
• Excellent communication capabilities to articulate the Crate and Barrel brand vision alongside individual client requirements.
• Strong comfort and proficiency with technology platforms like 2D and 3D design tools, Google suite, and virtual communication channels.
• Ability to stay informed about and apply current design trends in daily work.
• Demonstrated history of building lasting customer relationships through personalized service.
• At least one year of relevant experience in furniture sales, home decor design, or retail/customer service sectors.
• Experience engaging one-on-one with clients, offering personalized solutions.
• Competence in using Google platforms and virtual communication; design tool experience is advantageous.
