Role Overview

We seek a hands-on Data Scientist driven to leverage machine learning techniques to tackle genuine financial crime challenges. The ideal candidate will be adept at handling complex transactional datasets, take accountability for the model lifecycle from conception to deployment, and emphasize developing solutions that excel in accuracy, robustness, transparency, and scalability. Collaboration with engineering and product teams in an agile, fast-scaling startup environment is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and enhance machine learning models targeting fraud detection.
• Develop and optimize automated rules to improve fraud detection efficacy.
• Analyze transactional and behavioral data to uncover suspicious activity patterns.
• Lead feature engineering, model training, validation, and ongoing monitoring.
• Manage the transition of models from prototype stages to production-ready systems.
• Effectively communicate technical outcomes to both technical colleagues and business stakeholders.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Academic background in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• 2 to 3 years of practical experience applying machine learning and data science, preferably within fraud detection, banking, or financial services sectors.
• Advanced skills in Python programming and SQL for data handling and model development.
• Comprehensive knowledge of classification and anomaly detection methods, including proficiency in selecting, tuning, and validating models with suitable metrics.
• Proven capability for end-to-end project ownership, encompassing exploratory data analysis, modeling, result visualization, cloud deployment (GCP, Azure, AWS), and full model lifecycle management.
• Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and automated agent workflows.
• Familiarity with tools for model explainability, including SHAP and model cards documentation.
• Self-motivated, well-organized work approach paired with strong communication skills.
• Fluency in English and professional-level German language skills, allowing for client-facing technical conversations.
