Role Overview

The Cover Supervisor is responsible for classroom oversight during teacher absences, ensuring instructional activities proceed as per the provided lesson plans and that students remain focused. Key daily duties include pupil supervision, fostering a safe and positive classroom atmosphere, enforcing behaviour standards aligned with school policies, and delivering clear directives during tasks.

Additional tasks involve classroom preparation, collecting completed assignments, communicating with teaching staff regarding student progress or concerns, and participating in broader school community activities as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Confident classroom management skills with consistent application of behaviour policies.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to engage students and collaborate with teaching and support personnel.
  • Strong organizational capabilities to accurately follow lesson plans, manage distribution and collection of work, and record relevant information for teachers.
  • Flexibility and resilience to support various classes, year groups, and subjects, occasionally at short notice.
  • Prior experience working with children or young people, preferably within school settings.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols, with readiness to undertake necessary checks and training.
  • Minimum educational attainment equivalent to GCSEs; additional qualifications related to education or childcare are advantageous.
  • A proactive, dependable approach with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and high-quality learning environment.
