Content Strategist

About the Role

Content is a critical channel for Descript, driving brand awareness and demand. While previously centered on individual creators and small businesses, the company is expanding into larger markets. This calls for a seasoned Content Strategist to craft and implement a content system that combines subject expertise with user insights, creating impactful and diverse content formats. The individual should excel as a writer and understand what constitutes compelling and strategic content. The goal is to develop original, human-driven content amplified by data and strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Design Descript's overall content strategy, including editorial planning and prioritizing content channels.
• Identify gaps and opportunities in content by leveraging user data, market trends, and search analysis.
• Develop frameworks to measure content performance linking activities to brand growth and sales pipeline.
• Create an AI-driven content production system that scales quality output while maintaining originality.
• Produce or commission diverse content types such as articles, research reports, interactive tools, video scripts, and more.
• Optimize content for discoverability in AI-powered search environments.
• Collaborate with Demand Generation, Product Marketing, and Field Marketing teams to create assets supporting sales pipelines.
• Develop mid and bottom-funnel materials like case studies, ROI calculators, and competitive comparisons to convert leads.
• Refine and evolve Descript’s editorial voice across platforms.
• Establish subject matter expertise programs involving Descript’s employees and customers as content resources.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years’ experience in content strategy, marketing, or social media within B2B or hybrid B2B/B2C contexts.
• Strong knowledge of the evolving media landscape and content distribution methods.
• Comfortable integrating AI tools into content creation and workflows.
• Proficient in analytics with the ability to create and manage a content measurement framework.
• Demonstrated portfolio showcasing strategic content initiatives with measurable results, beyond volume alone.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in product-led growth companies.
• Background in media, creative tools, or adjacent audio/video industries.
• Proven ability to develop content programs tuned for AI discovery optimization.

Success Metrics for First 12 Months

• Deliver a clear content strategy including channel prioritization, audience segmentation, and measurement systems.
• Launch an AI-enhanced content engine with defined workflows, tools, and editorial standards.
• Release a leading demand-gen asset such as a research report or interactive tool.
• Demonstrate tangible growth in content's impact on brand visibility and sales pipeline.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this role is $130,000 to $165,000, determined by experience, expertise, location, and role level.
