Role Overview
We seek a Chief Operating Officer to lead day-to-day business operations for a well-established residential design and construction firm in Cork. This senior leadership role involves managing an experienced team to ensure seamless coordination between departments and drive the company through its next phase of growth with a strong forward order book.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct all daily operational aspects of the company.
- Lead and mentor the management team while fostering accountability and maintaining a collaborative culture.
- Integrate the functions of departments into a cohesive process rather than isolated units.
- Supervise the critical transition from design and pre-construction stages to active construction projects.
- Verify completeness of designs, planning, engineering, documentation, bills of quantities, and client choices before starting projects.
- Monitor ongoing construction schedules, risks, milestones, and timelines.
- Collaborate with the Financial Controller to evaluate project budgets, costs, variations, profit margins, cash flow, and commercial risk exposure.
- Oversee planning and management of project handovers.
- Ensure an excellent client experience through every stage of the customer journey.
- Lead warranty and aftercare processes to track and resolve issues, driving continuous improvement.
- Maintain systems that provide transparency on responsibilities, deadlines, outstanding information, and risks.
- Identify and promptly address problems through appropriate personnel.
- Contribute to the company’s ongoing development and strategic direction.
Candidate Profile
This position suits established professionals such as Managing Directors, Operations Directors, Construction Directors, Contracts Directors, Heads of Operations, Regional Directors, Senior Contracts Managers, or Senior Project Directors with substantial experience in residential construction, design-build, property development, or similar project-driven businesses.
Successful applicants will have proven expertise leading management teams rather than only managing projects, strong commercial insight with the ability to scrutinize financial performance, and familiarity with the dynamics between design, pre-construction, and project delivery phases. They should possess the discernment to evaluate projects thoroughly before construction commences.
Desired Leadership Qualities
- Composed and thoughtful demeanor.
- Highly organized and pragmatic approach.
- Commercially savvy with decisive judgment.
- Approachable yet firm in ensuring accountability.
- Collaborative mindset free from ego.
- Capable of offering constructive challenges.
- Passionate about developing people and enhancing operational effectiveness.
Why Join?
This role offers a unique chance to take the helm of a thriving business with a respected reputation, a capable leadership team, and a strong future pipeline. The incoming COO will inherit a solid platform and be empowered to support the team in reaching peak performance, with a competitive senior remuneration package reflecting their experience and skills.
