Chief Housing Officer

Role Overview

The Chief Housing Officer (CHO) is the executive leader responsible for directing Habitat Omaha's housing initiatives, including strategy, production systems, real estate development, construction operations, and home repair programs. Reporting to the CEO and a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CHO leads all housing delivery functions to promote Habitat Omaha's mission by overseeing planning, development, acquisition, production, and preservation of affordable homes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership and mentorship to directors handling Construction, Home Repair, and Real Estate functions, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Manage volunteer and internship programs within housing to align with organizational priorities and drive community engagement.
• Develop and implement long-term housing strategies supporting organizational goals.
• Oversee annual and multi-year housing production targets and performance metrics.
• Evaluate and expand housing capacity and operational efficiencies.
• Supervise real estate development activities including land acquisition, property disposition, and housing pipeline management.
• Collaborate with municipal authorities, developers, lenders, and community partners to promote housing opportunities and neighborhood development.
• Prepare strategic reports and presentations for the CEO, Board of Directors, and committees involving housing activities and major transactions.
• Represent Habitat Omaha in external partnerships to advance affordable housing initiatives.
• Lead succession planning and organizational development within the housing departments.

Candidate Profile

• Seasoned executive experienced in balancing strategic planning with operational execution for multiple senior leaders.
• A systems thinker who understands interdependencies within housing functions ensuring coordinated progress.
• Calm and structured in managing complex projects with numerous moving parts.
• Excellent communicator who clarifies expectations, timelines, and decisions for teams.
• Collaborative leadership style focused on alignment and shared ownership.
• Strong operational judgment ensuring efficient sequencing and resource utilization.
• Confident external representative building impactful partnerships.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of advancing leadership experience in housing, construction, real estate development, or community development.
• Proven success in leading multiple departments and achieving strategic and operational outcomes.
• Experience managing major development projects, land acquisitions, and real estate deals.
• Familiarity with presenting to Boards and executive teams.
• Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Construction Management, Engineering, Real Estate, Urban Planning, or related disciplines; advanced degrees and certifications are a plus.
• Nonprofit and mission-driven organization experience preferred.
