Job description

Position Overview

The Central Control Room Operator (CRO) is integral to the safe, efficient, and reliable functioning of the entire plant’s operations. stationed in the control room, you will oversee all aspects of operational activities to achieve production, safety, efficiency, and cost objectives, while ensuring compliance with environmental standards. This role requires hands-on familiarity with systems such as Cogeneration, Gas Turbine, Multiple-Effect Distillation (MED), Desalination, and auxiliary equipment. The position demands both control room and occasional field responsibilities, including completing the required field operator PQR.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate plant systems within defined parameters, prioritizing the safety of personnel and compliance with policies and legislation.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, plant incidents, and emergencies; file necessary incident or accident reports as required.
  • Participate actively in safety initiatives, such as toolbox meetings, audits, and walkthroughs.
  • Maintain peak plant performance, continually monitoring and adjusting water and power outputs per off-taker requirements.
  • Conduct scheduled system and equipment tests to verify reliability of safety devices and backup systems.
  • Execute safe startup and shutdown sequences for plant and ancillary equipment, as well as planned maintenance transitions.
  • Oversee, guide, and support field operators in safe and efficient equipment operation and routine maintenance or testing.
  • Document operational activities, incidents, and maintenance in shift reports, trip logs, production logs, and other standard records.
  • Take charge during emergencies in absence of the Shift Engineer.
  • Raise notifications and work orders for plant defects or faults, coordinating closely with maintenance and planning teams.
  • Prepare, process, and enforce safety documentation to ensure safe system isolations for maintenance.
  • Maintain strong coordination with Power, Gas, Sea Water, and Water Control Centers regarding availability declarations and operations planning.
  • Operate within the guidelines of shift engineering protocols, planning and managing routine work independently, but escalating non-standard issues as necessary.

Performance Expectations

  • Demonstrate strict adherence to operational and safety procedures, ISO standards, and company safety rules.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all activities, faults, trips, and system switches.
  • Support maintenance teams with timely planning and reporting.
  • Consistently declare accurate power and water availability towards external control centers.
  • Complete the company’s required skill matrix and perform as acting Shift Engineer when required.
