Role Overview
As a Category Manager, you will leverage complex retail and shopper data to formulate strategic insights that support Sales and Marketing in increasing volume, revenue, and profitability. Collaboration with regional Sales leaders and Marketing will be essential for delivering unified, data-driven growth strategies and retailer presentations.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze syndicated, POS, retailer, and internal data to identify trends in sales, pricing, promotions, assortment, merchandising, and shopper behavior.
- Develop compelling category narratives highlighting growth drivers, opportunities, and the role of The Little Potato Company’s products.
- Customize retailer-specific presentations using proprietary and public datasets to strengthen customer engagements.
- Integrate data from multiple retailers to discover cross-retailer patterns and scalable growth opportunities.
- Monitor competitor activities including pricing, promotions, assortment, merchandising, and new product launches.
- Create and maintain dashboards and scorecards to aid sales planning and strategic decisions, ensuring accuracy and regular updates.
- Evaluate retailer pricing and promotions to balance volume growth with profitability, measuring impacts of various promotional activities.
- Assess retail activations and merchandising initiatives to determine effectiveness and ROI alongside Shopper Marketing.
- Collaborate with Shopper Marketing to analyze post-activation performance and optimize future investments.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years in category management, commercial/shopper insights or analytics within the CPG industry.
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, analytics, economics, or a related research-focused field.
- Hands-on experience with retail syndicated and POS platforms such as NielsenIQ, Circana, Numerator Insights, and others.
- Familiarity with retailer analytic tools including Walmart Luminate, Sobeys IRIS, Loblaws platforms, Costco IRI, dunnhumby, and similar systems.
- Knowledge of category management frameworks like 4Ps, Good-Better-Best segmentation, decision trees, assortment optimization, and planogram logic.
- Experience interpreting consumer panel data to contextualize shopper behaviors and category performance.
- Proven ability to analyze and translate insights on pricing, promotion, margins, assortment, merchandising, and distribution into impactful business outcomes.
- Strong accountability and ownership of insights and recommendations.
- Proven track record of improving or standardizing insights processes and reporting for team efficiency.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial, and mission-driven environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within North America for meetings and business reviews.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time position primarily office-based with remote work flexibility, requiring collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior leaders. The standard work week is Monday through Friday with occasional evening or weekend work. Frequent interaction with external partners such as agencies and data providers is expected. The position allows remote work anywhere in Canada or the USA with travel estimated at 5–10%. A valid driver's license and passport are required.
