Job description

About the Role

Do you want to transition into a new profession and are open to working in the railway industry? Deutsche Bahn is looking for motivated individuals seeking a change of direction, such as those returning from parental leave or coming from different fields. Comprehensive support and an attractive salary are provided during your retraining period, after which you will work collaboratively alongside experienced colleagues.

Retraining Details

  • The full-time (39 hours/week) retraining program consists of both theoretical and hands-on sessions.
  • The theory portion is conducted primarily in Munich at overregional training centers, while practical assignments are held as close to your home as possible.
  • Each training class typically comprises about 12-15 participants.
  • All expenses for travel, accommodations, and home visits during the training are fully covered, with an extra stipend for the retraining period.

Job Responsibilities after Retraining

  • Work at the signal control center (Stellwerk) at the Frankfurt am Main operations center, managing and supervising train movements to ensure punctual and safe operations.
  • Set up train routes by controlling tracks, switches, and signals, securing departures from stations.
  • Monitor train activity and operations within railway stations.
  • Maintain ongoing coordination and communication with other signal center staff, train drivers, and dispatch units.

Candidate Profile

  • Completed vocational training in any recognized trade (examples: retail, office administration, gastronomy, bakery sales, etc.).
  • Comfortable using computers and basic PC applications.
  • Ability to stay calm and maintain a clear overview in high-pressure or complex situations.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a willingness to take responsibility.
  • Willingness to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with a maintained work-life balance.

Experienced train traffic controllers are also encouraged to apply.

Equal Opportunity Statement

Deutsche Bahn values diversity and is committed to providing equal opportunities for all applicants. Applications are welcomed regardless of gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, previous unemployment, sexual orientation, or identity. Candidates with disabilities will be given preference if equally qualified.

Benefits

  • Receive 16 free train trips within Germany each year plus further travel discounts, including a DB work ticket for commuting and special rates for family and friends.
  • Competitive salary package, typically with a permanent contract and job security, plus additional benefits and an employer pension scheme.
  • Stable long-term employment in a forward-looking company.
