About the Role
This position supports the Northport Café as part of Rottnest Express, a Journey Beyond brand operating marine transfers and tourism experiences to and from Rottnest Island. Working closely with the Café Supervisor, you will help deliver a smooth, welcoming café experience for guests and visitors while upholding the company’s focus on creating memorable interactions.
About the Business
Rottnest Express is a key operator for ferry services to Rottnest Island and also offers extended-stay and day-tour packages, along with adventure experiences around the island. It sits within Journey Beyond, an experiential tourism group with 20 brands across Australia and New Zealand, including rail, marine, outback, lodge, and attraction-based experiences.
Key Duties
- Provide friendly, consistent, and memorable service to guests throughout their café visit.
- Take customer orders and serve food and beverages.
- Operate coffee machines and other café equipment safely and effectively.
- Prepare, present, and cook menu items, while keeping food displays neat and appealing.
- Support menu development when required.
- Help keep café operations running efficiently during busy periods.
- Clean café and kitchen work areas as needed.
- Process customer purchases accurately using the POS system.
- Maintain clean and orderly tables, chairs, and dining spaces at all times.
- Follow workplace procedures, safety practices, and WHS obligations.

The right person will enjoy guest-facing work, thrive in a busy hospitality and tourism setting, and bring a positive, proactive approach. Flexibility is important, including availability for early starts from 6:00am, weekends, and public holidays.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Hospitality qualification or equivalent hands-on experience is preferred.
- RSA certification or Approved Bar Manager status is highly regarded.
- Food Handling Certificate is desirable.
- HLTAID011 First Aid and CPR certification is desirable.
- Barista training is highly regarded.
- Previous experience in fast-paced customer service environments is preferred.
- Strong commitment to excellent customer service.
- Good knowledge of coffee preparation, food handling, and service standards.
- Understanding of WHS, food safety, and hygiene requirements.
