Job Overview

As a Buyer-I at Jabil, you will be responsible for procuring all necessary components to support both production and prototype builds. Your role includes negotiating optimal pricing, managing lead times, resolving quality concerns, and maintaining delivery and inventory levels aligned with production needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in the Master Production Schedule (MPS) planning through accurate material sizing.
• Manage and execute the Materials Requirement Plan (MRP), continuously monitoring the material supply pipeline to ensure compliance with MRP requirements and promptly addressing any supply chain challenges.
• Ensure availability of materials to support production schedules by coordinating on-time delivery and material movement from receiving to production areas.
• Proactively minimize material liabilities by accurately determining ownership between supplier and customer; provide relevant data to Business Unit Managers accordingly and enforce negotiated supplier terms to reduce liabilities.
• Issue Purchase Orders based on negotiated pricing and terms agreed by Jabil Commodity Managers and Buyers, ensuring supplier compliance with agreements.
• Streamline order management processes to maintain clear and effective communication with suppliers.
• Maintain accuracy of master data and purchasing planning parameters to balance procurement costs against inventory levels, minimizing material liabilities.
• Monitor supplier delivery and quality performance continuously and resolve significant or recurring issues using corrective action methods.
• Assist Accounts Payable in resolving discrepancies related to supplier invoices.
• Contribute insights to implement Jabil’s commodity and pricing strategies, collaborating closely with Buyers, Commodity Managers, and Supply Chain Management; provide feedback on supplier performance and strategy effectiveness.
• Seek to minimize freight expenses associated with materials procurement.
• Track and report on supplier performance regarding delivery, quality, and service standards.
• Adhere strictly to company safety, health, and security policies as directed by supervisors.
• Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Competence in calculating discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, as well as geometric calculations including area, circumference, and volume.
• Basic understanding and application of algebra and geometry concepts.
• Effective communication skills to present information and respond to queries from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Strong analytical skills to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw logical conclusions.
• Proficiency in using personal computers with Windows OS and related business software.
• Advanced computer skills including familiarity with Jabil’s proprietary software packages.
• Ability to compose simple written correspondence and interpret visual aids.
• Common sense for following simple one- or two-step instructions and to manage standardized situations with limited variability.
• Reading comprehension of simple instructions, memos, and correspondence.
• Numerical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the ability to compute ratios, rates, and percentages and interpret graphical data.
