Overview
The Town of Castle Rock is seeking a dedicated Athletics Coordinator I to join their team. This role focuses on organizing and managing sports leagues and activities to enhance community engagement while preserving the town's identity and quality of life. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain practice and game schedules, coordinating the use of facilities and teams.
- Establish teams as needed, considering player skill levels and special requests to provide a positive experience for participants.
- Recruit and supervise volunteer coaches and umpires to support league operations.
- Track and maintain league standings accurately.
- Conduct inspections of fields and facilities utilized for athletic events.
- Notify coaches promptly about necessary schedule or facility changes, including postponements or cancellations due to weather or other factors.
- Provide First Aid to injured players, officials, and spectators at events.
- Document incidents including code violations, First Aid administered, and weekly league results.
- Ensure the safety of all spectators and players during events.
- Enforce league policies and codes of conduct, including adjudicating suspensions or ejections when required.
- Serve as a liaison between the Town and participants, spectators, and facility owners.
- Offer guidance to League Supervisors and Scorekeepers during events.
- Market leagues to community members and recruit players to promote participation.
- Manage sports equipment care and inventory control.
- Step in as League Supervisor or Scorekeeper when necessary, including officiating and scoring contests.
- Support special events or tournaments related to athletics.
- Carry out additional duties assigned to support the department’s goals.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of experience instructing or coaching sports or activities, including curriculum development and lesson planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Valid driver’s license mandatory.
- Knowledgeable in parks and recreation program administration and policies.
- Strong skills in supervising and instructing personnel, including volunteer staff.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experienced with operating scoreboards and sports equipment.
- Ability to interpret various advisory materials such as rule books, equipment manuals, and policy guides.
- Physically capable of coaching and officiating athletic activities at multiple venues during shifts.
- Familiarity with sports rules, regulations, terminology, and codes of conduct for different age groups.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for clarity and professionalism.
- Demonstrated organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Must successfully pass a driving record check and criminal background check before employment.
