Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Assistant Editor with a strong technical background and a meticulous approach who can elevate our post-production workflows and provide key support to our expanding team. This position merges hands-on production execution and technical leadership, ensuring seamless project management through media handling, editor and producer support, and enforcing workflow standards.
The role demands attention to detail, robust technical expertise, and collaboration across teams in Toronto and Montreal, functioning within a fast-paced environment. The annual salary ranges from $60,000 to $85,000 based on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize, manage, and archive media assets using platforms like EditShare and Archiware.
- Efficiently ingest, transcode, synchronize, and categorize media files.
- Set up projects and editing sessions within EditShare.
- Prepare media conforming for color grading and audio post-production stages.
- Monitor and enforce standardized post-production workflows.
- Coordinate technical setup and maintenance of editing suites and workstations collaboratively with IT or external support teams.
- Manage remote editing sessions and hybrid approval processes using tools like Jump Desktop or equivalents.
- Provide first-line technical troubleshooting for software, media, and workflow issues.
- Conduct corrections, revisions, versions management, and final exports.
- Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and consistency of deliverables.
- Offer day-to-day operational support to editors, assistant editors, producers, and motion designers.
- Assist with color grading, motion design, and other post-production tasks as needed.
- Maintain inventory and ensure proper operation of post-production equipment.
- Anticipate technical obstacles and facilitate effective problem-solving.
- Stay informed of industry trends, evolving technologies, and best practices.
- Collaborate closely with cross-location teams in Toronto and Montreal.
Qualifications and Experience
- 4 to 5 years professional experience in post-production or assistant editing roles.
- Strong knowledge of video formats, codecs, and post-production processes.
- Proficient in EditShare, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and After Effects software.
- Experience with Archiware or similar digital archiving systems.
- Skilled in technical problem diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with capability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and solutions-oriented.
- Comfortable working in hybrid and remote production environments.
- Bonus skills: experience with color grading, motion graphics, or audio workflows.
- Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration platforms.
