Eurofins Environment Testing Australia specializes in environmental analysis, including soil, water, air, and emissions testing, operating fully accredited laboratories across multiple Australian cities including the Murarrie location in Queensland where this position is based.
Position Overview
The role of Asbestos Analyst is centered on the identification of asbestos fibers following ISO 17025 accredited laboratory methods. This position involves analysis of asbestos in building materials and possibly soils, as well as preparation and evaluation of airborne fibre samples. The position requires shift hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with full-time onsite presence in Murarrie, QLD. Employees receive an additional 1.5% superannuation contribution above the national standard rate.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct routine asbestos identification and physical testing on samples.
- Manage and prioritize work independently to ensure timely and accurate testing and results reporting.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, including keeping thorough maintenance records.
- Adhere strictly to quality control procedures, including performing internal quality control sample analyses.
- Identify quality issues, report them promptly, and support corrective actions.
- Complete all analyses assigned by supervisory personnel.
- Provide support and guidance to laboratory technicians as needed.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or a similar qualification; relevant laboratory experience may be considered.
- Successful completion of internal quality control processes is required, including multiple QC slide and sample analyses, ongoing competency training, and proficiency testing submission.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Tertiary background in Science, Environmental Science, Occupational Hygiene, or related fields.
- Experienced in asbestos fibre identification and counting per AS 4964 and AS 5370 standards.
- Knowledgeable in air sampling equipment calibration and lab equipment maintenance.
- Understanding of ISO 17025 accreditation standards and lab quality procedures.
- Competent in managing and reporting laboratory data accurately.
- Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and technical laboratory working ability.
- Committed to continuous learning and quality improvement.
- Effective practical judgement, organisational capacity, and time management.
