Role Overview

We are seeking a Designer I who brings innovative thinking, high standards, and enthusiasm for residential design. This role involves collaborating closely with principals and the studio team to enhance the design quality that distinguishes our projects.

Responsibilities

• Participate in developing project designs including schematic design, construction documentation, and preparation of presentation materials.
• Work alongside the Principal-in-charge, Team Leader, and project team to define design goals, guide project vision, and support design workflow.
• Provide updates on projects following client feedback, ensuring adherence to structural integrity and building codes.
• Create working drawings for private residential projects and take measurements to generate existing condition drawings.
• Learn and apply knowledge in wood frame construction and structural necessities.
• Assist in establishing project design criteria, timelines, and overall schedule management.
• Revise CAD drawings, including plans, elevations, and sections, based on redlines and client inputs.
• Construct architectural models through both manual techniques and 3D CAD software.
• Engage in client meetings and conduct construction observations or site visits when required.

Qualifications

• Between 1 to 5 years of experience specialized in residential design and technical project development.
• Comprehensive understanding of all stages of architectural design development.
• Holds a degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) from an accredited institution.
• A strong passion for residential architecture with intent to specialize in this domain.
• Experienced in producing comprehensive production documents and ensuring building code compliance.
• Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Capable of creating both manual and computerized 3-D architectural models.
• Demonstrates strong multitasking, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent communication capabilities.
• Must be able to work onsite at our Vineyard Haven, MA (Martha's Vineyard) studio location.

Compensation and Work Environment

The annual salary range is between $64,000 and $76,000. Hutker Architects offers meaningful work, authentic responsibility, and growth opportunities through active involvement in all stages of designing and delivering thoughtful residential architecture. The firm comprises 60 professionals across four Massachusetts offices, united by a passion for creating homes that endure and enrich lives.
