Role Overview
The Ventilation Officer will be instrumental in planning and executing ventilation strategies for the underground metal mines, ensuring safe and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement ventilation schemes that comply with regulatory standards and enhance air quality in the underground mining environment.
- Continuously monitor air quality for gases and dust levels adhering to Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) guidelines, regulate airflow at mining faces to meet statutory requirements.
- Oversee shaft resizing activities and lead the installation and commissioning of mechanical ventilation equipment in underground settings.
- Manage maintenance schedules and performance logging of main ventilation fans; develop operational procedures for fan usage in the mine.
- Create and enforce emergency protocols relating to ventilation incidents underground.
- Ensure strict adherence to mining safety laws and ventilation norms as mandated by DGMS.
- Identify and implement enhancement opportunities to optimize ventilation systems and operational practices.
- Conduct training for mine personnel including workers, engineers, supervisors, focusing on ventilation systems, safety SOPs, and fostering a healthy work environment.
Requirements and Skills
- 8 to 10 years’ relevant experience as a ventilation officer in underground metal mining operations.
- B.Tech degree in Mining Engineering with first-class or Second Class Mine Manager Competency Certificate for Metal Underground Mines.
- Proficient in ventilation-related technology tools like AUTOCAD and VENTSIM.
