Role Overview

As a Utility Locator reporting to the Locates Supervisor, you will accurately locate underground utilities such as gas, electricity, telecommunications, water, and sewer services. This unionized position requires membership upon hiring. The service areas include Ottawa and Cambridge, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

• Precisely and safely identify underground utilities using utility records and electronic locating equipment.
• Mark and document utility locates utilizing specialized locate work management software and adhering to documentation protocols.
• Efficiently complete locate assignments given by the Foreperson, Coordinator, or Superintendent.
• Use infrastructure records effectively to plan and execute utility locating tasks.
• Operate company vehicles safely and plan travel logistics to and from work sites.
• Collaborate as part of locate project teams as required.
• Maintain communication with Supervisors, Coordinators, and Clients through various channels.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support project goals.

Candidate Qualifications

• Possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Exhibit self-motivation, strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Work independently and maintain productivity with minimal supervision.
• Be willing to work extended hours to meet deadlines when necessary.
• Demonstrate accuracy and problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.
• Effectively prioritize tasks and adhere to established timelines.
• Engage professionally with customers and stakeholders.
• Proficient with work management software, email, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
• Experience with public and private utility locating, pre-engineering locates, and gas distribution third-party observation (Vital Main Integrity) is advantageous.
• Prior construction experience is beneficial.
• Having DPT Certification is a significant asset.

Additional Information

This is a new vacancy within Aecon Utilities, Ontario’s leading utility contractor aiming to be Canada’s foremost utility construction provider. The position is covered by a collective agreement with an hourly pay range from $29 to $39, based on location, education, experience, certifications, and role complexity.
