User Experience Researcher

About the Role

OSI Engineering, a globally recognized consumer device company located in Cupertino, CA, is seeking an experienced Human Factors Engineer / UX Researcher. This position demands employing user-centered design principles to advance audio product development through comprehensive mixed methods research that guides product design decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and implement mixed methods research studies focusing on product fit and comfort within Apple's laboratory environment, managing the entire research process from initial exploration to final validation.
• Interpret both quantitative and qualitative datasets, including human perception, anthropometrics, photogrammetry, and hardware characterization, translating the results into clear, actionable design guidance.
• Collaborate closely with teams in design, engineering, and acoustics to integrate research insights that influence product development.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of 5 years’ industry experience conducting mixed methods research related to comfort, fit, or ergonomic interaction with consumer products.
• A Bachelor’s degree is mandatory; advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) in human factors, industrial engineering, cognitive engineering, human-computer interaction, or experimental psychology are preferred.
• Strong communication skills are essential to effectively present research findings to technical and design audiences.
• Proficient in designing rigorous experiments, usability testing, interviews, and psychophysical or perception scaling techniques (such as JND and Likert scales), with the ability to analyze and visualize qualitative and quantitative data.
• Experience integrating anthropometric data with human perception insights for design decisions.
• Familiarity with photogrammetry or comparable 3D scanning and geometric data processing methods.
• Ability to analyze hardware characterization data (e.g., force, pressure, retention, contact mapping) and relate these findings to human factors outcomes.
• Capable of independent work with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment throughout all stages of research.
• Knowledge of ear and head anatomy is advantageous; alternatively, experience with ergonomics of other wearable products like headwear, footwear, or apparel is acceptable.
• Experience or proficiency with CAD and modeling techniques, including FEA and parametric modeling used in collaboration, is a plus.
