Job Summary
The Transporter position is responsible for safely and efficiently moving patients and their belongings throughout the Medical Center. This role demands courteous and professional service focused on patient- and family-centered care while maintaining safety for both patients and employees. Daily use of patient tracking software is required to monitor all patient and equipment movements.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients as directed by licensed medical staff to support patient care directly.
- Indirect support by transferring medication, blood products, and specimens as instructed by medical professionals.
- Maintain safety standards for patients and employees during all transport activities.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding transport operations and coordinate patient arrivals and departures with the respective units.
- Interact respectfully with patients and their families ensuring positive service experiences.
- Assist nursing staff in maintaining the care environment and monitor expiration dates of supplies.
- Properly handle patient equipment and supplies, including oxygen equipment when needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of transport equipment and apply correct body mechanics when assisting patients.
- Utilize computer-based transport systems accurately and update patient transport status as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and comply fully with Wellstar Health System’s policies, codes of conduct, and work standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum educational requirement is a High School Diploma or GED; Health Science accreditation is preferred.
- Mandatory certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent (Instructor, American Red Cross, or other certified BLS programs) to be held upon hire.
- At least two years of relevant experience recommended, preferably in healthcare or customer service sectors.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for effective teamwork and interaction with patients and staff.
- Ability to operate computers and effectively use online patient transport tracking systems.
