About the Role
Valard Construction's Distribution team in Sherwood Park, Alberta is seeking an experienced Traffic Control / Flag Person. This full-time, on-site role reports to the Supervisor, Traffic Control, and involves managing two-way traffic flow and setting up construction site safety equipment. The position requires maintaining a secure working environment throughout roadwork operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage and guide vehicle and pedestrian movement safely at construction locations to ensure efficient traffic flow.
- Install traffic control devices such as signs, cones, barricades, barrels, and delineators to divert traffic from work zones.
- Control stop-and-go traffic as necessary to accommodate construction progress while minimizing delays.
- Engage with drivers and pedestrians to provide clear instructions ensuring adherence to traffic regulations.
- Collaborate with fellow traffic controllers to maintain smooth traffic operations.
- Uphold a safe work area by following established safety procedures and wearing appropriate protective gear.
- Maintain diligent safety awareness aligned with health and safety regulations and company policies.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Demonstrated prior experience as a flagger or in traffic control roles.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
- Comfortable operating in proximity to moving traffic and pedestrian activity.
- Completion of CSTS (Construction Safety Training System) certification.
Preferred Credentials
- Certification in Traffic Control Persons for Construction or Alberta Temporary Traffic Control training is advantageous.
Working Conditions
This role typically requires working Monday through Friday, around 30 to 40 hours per week, with occasional weekend shifts and travel out of town as required.
Compensation and Benefits
