About the Role
The Town of Castle Rock seeks a dedicated Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals through thoughtfully designed recreational programs. As part of a team that values cooperation, clear communication, and innovation, this role focuses on preserving the community’s identity while delivering exceptional public service.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee a variety of recreational programs tailored for individuals with developmental, intellectual, and/or physical disabilities.
- Design, execute, and adapt diverse, age-appropriate activities across multiple domains to meet participants' needs.
- Lead, support, train, and assess seasonal staff and volunteers using the APIE (Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation) framework and program standards.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols; administer First Aid and CPR as required.
- Apply respectful and effective behavioral management techniques emphasizing safety and dignity.
- Maintain detailed documentation concerning programs, participant information, and staff/volunteer activities.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and caregivers both in person and electronically regarding program updates and participant progress.
- Provide transportation for participants by operating a van and conduct safety inspections on vehicles.
- Prepare, organize, and clean program spaces and materials before and after sessions.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the administration.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Preferred: At least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
- CPR and First Aid certification are required, or the ability to obtain them within 30 days of employment.
- Strong leadership skills to guide and instruct team members effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for clear interaction with stakeholders.
- Proficiency in administering CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to address concerns from parents, guardians, and participants with tact and professionalism.
- Sound judgment to make independent decisions within program policies and standards.
- Capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with supervisors, colleagues, partners, caregivers, and volunteers.
- Competency in safely driving multi-passenger vehicles.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check before starting employment.
